About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and optimisation of mechanical systems and components. This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including experience with hydraulic components, advanced CAD proficiency, and a proactive approach to leadership, problem-solving and innovation. Key Responsibilities Perform detailed engineering analysis and simulations to enhance product performance and reliability. Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including engineering reports, detailed drawings, and specifications. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure design objectives and project requirements are met. Develop 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor. Generate manufacturing drawings, schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). Contribute to research and development initiatives and support engineering innovation projects. Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation of design concepts. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and prepare technical documentation for certification. Understand hydraulic components, pumps, spool valves, solenoid valves, hydraulic torque motors and hydraulic cylinders Conduct tolerance analysis, stress and thermal analysis (FEA), and assess manufacturability. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) investigations. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the earth-moving equipment or mobile machinery sector. Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor. Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools, including Nastran. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality manufacturing documentation and BOMs. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Strong leadership and communication skills. Sound knowledge of hydraulic systems and mechanical design standards. Familiarity with welding techniques and material selection. Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Experience with manufacturing processes and procedures. Knowledge of gear design is advantageous. Experience with PDM or Vault systems.
