Principal Legal Advisor - LPE — Melbourne CBD, Melbourne

The Opportunity This role is suited to a lawyer with expertise in land, planning and environment law, who wants to support major energy infrastructure projects in Victoria. Reporting to the Director Legal – Projects, it involves advising on land strategy, environmental approvals (including EES) and compulsory acquisition processes, contributing to the delivery of key projects such as transmission infrastructure, renewable energy zones, offshore wind and electricity connections. What you will deliver * Supporting the Director Legal – Projects to ensure effective and efficient provision of high-quality, timely and trusted legal advice focused on land, planning & environment matters and assisting with general legal and delivery team workflow as required. * Working with the Project Delivery Team to develop and implement land access strategy including any legislative amendments required to streamline approval processes. * Draft and coordinate briefings for Government approvals, ensuring a consistent and comprehensive approach on strategy and risk. What you will bring * Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to the Supreme Court of Victoria or a similar jurisdiction within Australia. * Strong understanding of environmental and planning legislation, regulations and guidelines including Planning & Environment Act 1987, Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 1986, Electricity Industry Act 2000 and ESC Land Access Guidelines. * A record of successfully advising on LPE matters and working with project delivery teams in an infrastructure context is essential. * Specific experience in dealing with land strategy, environmental approvals (including EES) and acquisition of land interests in a complex regulatory and project delivery environment is strongly preferred.
