About the Role Reporting to the State Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of laboratory operations. You’ll play a critical role in driving operational efficiency, ensuring compliance with NATA standards, and exploring opportunities to grow the lab’s services and client base. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage both technical excellence and business performance. Strengthen and expand the laboratory’s capabilities and efficiency while identifying opportunities for new services to drive revenue growth and profitability. Continuously develop and improve the laboratory’s capabilities, efficiency, and service offerings to drive revenue and profitability. Manage, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of laboratory professionals across all levels, fostering a high-performance culture and continuous improvement. Actively promote and lead safe work practices and ensure adherence to OH&S management standards. Ensure all activities meet NATA accreditation standards and maintain the highest levels of technical and quality assurance. Take full P&L responsibility, overseeing revenue, cost control, and profitability. Drive efficiency through Lean/Six Sigma principles and the adoption of new technologies and automation. The Successful Applicant will demonstrate the following skills and attributes: Strong commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Deep understanding of Australian and industry standards. NATA signatory for a range of construction materials tests (essential). Financial acumen with direct experience managing a P&L, budgeting, and financial analysis. Tertiary qualifications in Science, Civil, Chemical, or Materials Engineering (desirable). Proficiency in Qest, Microsoft Excel, Word, and other data/reporting tools. Skilled in strategic planning, operations management, and process optimization. Lean or Six Sigma training and experience with continuous improvement programs. Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills. Strong communication & experience managing a culturally diverse workforce across various age and experience levels.
