The Opportunity The Head of Legal provides high quality leadership, team management and legal advice and services for the benefit of the Agency, and through the Agency’s own functions and roles, the Future Fund Board of Guardians and its relevant Australian wholly-owned subsidiaries (collectively, the FF organisation). The successful candidate will need to contribute on legal and other matters across the Agency at a senior level. The Head of Legal is required to effectively lead, develop and manage the Legal team in a commercially astute and risk aware manner and to drive team strategies and initiatives in an efficient and collaborative manner. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and management of legal function Strategy and business planning Management of legal risk Organisational leadership and stakeholder management roles About You Qualifications A law degree from an Australian Tertiary institution or other legal qualification recognised for the purpose of admission to legal practice in Victoria or another State of Australia is essential Admitted to practice in Victoria or another State of Australia as a solicitor and be currently eligible to hold a Victorian legal practising certificate. Knowledge and Experience Significant investment transaction experience at an appropriately senior level in a major commercial law firm and/or in-house in a high quality commercial organisation. Excellent leadership, management (people and task), legal drafting, negotiations and broader persuasion skills The skill and ability to focus on the professional and personal welfare, development and empowerment of team members Legal risk assessment and management experience and demonstrable judgment, applying commercial knowledge and judgement and a strategic “lens” and mindset to issues and opportunities (current and emerging) Demonstrable skill and experience at building and managing relationships at all levels and across relevant parts of an organisation An ability to not only provide legal input into matters, but to also add value from a solutions-focussed, strategic, commercially astute and risk aware business point of view – to be a “trusted adviser” to relevant stakeholder A working knowledge of government legal, financial and legislative processes would be advantageous, but is not essential.
