Position Overview: We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Retail Buyer to manage product selection, purchasing, and inventory for our grocery and butcher sections. This role is critical to our growth strategy, ensuring our shelves are stocked with the right products at the right time, while maintaining quality and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate will have experience in retail food purchasing, supplier negotiation, and market analysis. Key Responsibilities: Monitor sales data and stock levels to optimize inventory and prevent shortages. Use trade, manufacturer, and market insights to anticipate changing market conditions and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly. Negotiate purchase, promotion, and supply arrangements with suppliers to secure favorable terms and reliable product quality. Develop and implement effective pricing, marketing, promotional, and display strategies that align with customer needs and business goals. Coordinate with management on long-term planning, seasonal purchasing, and sales promotions to maximize profitability. Establish purchasing plans based on seasonal trends, budget constraints, and customer demand forecasts. Assess and select products based on quality, price, and supplier reliability to meet customer expectations. Regularly visit suppliers, freezing works, and wholesale markets to inspect and verify product quality. Receive and evaluate product samples to ensure they meet quality standards and customer preferences. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitive pricing, and emerging consumer preferences. Ensure products meet all relevant regulatory and quality standards, including food safety and hygiene requirements. Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to support efficient supply chain management. Contribute to long-term purchasing strategies and stock optimization efforts to reduce waste and improve turnover. Collaborate with internal teams to align purchasing strategies with broader business goals and customer satisfaction initiatives. Required Skills and Qualifications: A certificate IV or diploma in business, retail management, or a related field is preferred but not essential. Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a Retail Buyer, preferably within the grocery, butcher, or food retail industry. Strong analytical skills to assess sales data, stock levels, and market trends effectively. Proven negotiation skills for achieving favorable purchasing terms and long-term supplier partnerships. Solid understanding of retail product selection, pricing, and promotional strategies. Excellent attention to detail, particularly in quality control, product selection, and pricing. Strong communication skills for liaising with suppliers, management, and internal teams. Ability to plan and manage tasks effectively, ensuring timely product availability within budget constraints. Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions, consumer demands, and seasonal requirements.
