Want to bring ideas to life? As an experienced engineer, you’re likely familiar with Aurecon – a leading design, engineering and advisory company with a strong track record of shaping sustainable and technically excellent infrastructure. But why choose to grow your career with us? At Aurecon, we believe every project should leave a meaningful legacy. We embed sustainability, innovation, and technical eminence into everything we do – from Australia’s largest energy transition initiatives to pioneering new renewable energy technologies. The Role The Principal Power Systems Engineer will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients across all types of energy infrastructure. This includes modelling and performance assessment of renewable energy zones, onshore and offshore wind farms, solar farms, battery energy storage systems and synchronous condensers, network planning for transmission and distribution systems, commercial research and development activities, and providing technical advice to a wide range of national and international stakeholders including network owners, system operators, developers, original equipment manufacturers, governments and regulatory and financial institutions. Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’. What Will You Do? Technical Leadership Lead and oversee complex power system studies including grid connection, system strength assessments, power quality analysis, and transmission/distribution planning. Guide the development and validation of dynamic and EMT models for a variety of technologies including solar PV, wind, battery energy storage systems, synchronous condensers, and hybrid plants. Provide high-level technical input on compliance with the NEM National Electricity Rules (NER), particularly in relation to Generator Performance Standards (GPS), model validation (R2), and AEMO registration processes. Conduct harmonic assessments and develop harmonic mitigation strategies including filter design and control tuning. Lead studies involving control system tuning and interaction analysis for both grid-forming and grid-following inverters. Prepare high-quality technical documentation, reports, and presentations for clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders. Software & Modelling Advanced use of power system analysis tools such as PSS®E, PSCAD/EMTDC, PowerFactory, DSATools and scripting in Python or similar for automation and model processing. Oversight of model development, integration, and performance evaluation for steady-state, dynamic, and EMT simulations. Project & Stakeholder Management Lead multidisciplinary teams across various locations to deliver key project milestones on time and within budget. Manage client expectations, project resources, risks, and deliverables across multiple concurrent engagements. Foster strong working relationships with clients, including developers, network service providers, AEMO, and regulators. Contribute to bid preparation, project scoping, and commercial reviews. People Leadership & Development Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers to support their technical and professional growth. Cultivate a collaborative team environment focused on technical excellence, inclusion, and continuous learning.
