In this influential role, you’ll lead the development of design standards, configurations, and specifications—bringing new technologies to life and enhancing the performance and reliability of our assets. You’ll spearhead technical investigations, manage the implementation of future-facing solutions, and ensure our systems not only meet today’s challenges but anticipate tomorrow’s opportunities. Your work will directly impact operational excellence, asset longevity, and Powerlink’s broader commitment to a sustainable energy future. You will also: Lead the design, research, and development of HV substation civil infrastructure and transmission line structures, including standards, tools, and failure investigations. Provide expert advice on complex technical challenges and emerging technologies across the business. Ensure alignment of all engineering activities with Powerlink’s safety policies and risk management practices. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and peers to resolve engineering issues and drive innovation. Support strategic planning and condition-based asset recommendations in collaboration with Asset Strategies and project sponsors. Represent Powerlink in industry committees, working groups, and conferences, showcasing our engineering leadership. The people you'll join: As a member of our Delvery and Technical Solutions division, you’ll be joining a highly skilled and collaborative team of professionals who are passionate about delivering safe, innovative, and future-focused energy infrastructure. The team works across disciplines to support the planning, design, and maintenance of high voltage substations and transmission lines, playing a pivotal role in shaping Powerlink’s strategic direction. With a strong culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement, you’ll be surrounded by subject matter experts who are committed to engineering the energy system —while supporting each other and delivering value to communities across Queensland. What you'll bring: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ). Extensive experience in HV transmission and substation civil/structural engineering. Proven ability to lead complex technical investigations, develop innovative design solutions, and influence engineering best practices. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and with external partners. Commercial acumen and experience working with vendors, suppliers, and regulatory frameworks. A passion for mentoring and sharing knowledge to build internal capability.
