About the Organisation Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority constituted under the Water Act 2000 whose purpose is to supply bulk water to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants. It takes measures to protect the quantity and quality of present and future water supplies and provides, operates and maintains recreational facilities and fish fingerling production facilities and stocking programs. About the Role GAWB is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join their Engineering team. This role is responsible for leading mechanical and multi-discipline projects within the organisation’s capital works program, while also providing technical support across operational and maintenance activities. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in project planning, design oversight, and contractor engagement, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of infrastructure upgrades and renewals. This is also a key technical advisory position, offering support across asset performance, mechanical compliance, and fault resolution. Some of the key accountabilities are outlined below: Manage the end-to-end delivery of assigned mechanical and multi-discipline engineering projects; Develop technical scopes, specifications, business cases, and tender documentation; Provide mechanical expertise for capital works, operations, and maintenance initiatives; Liaise with and supervise consultants and contractors during design and delivery phases; Conduct safety audits and contribute to ongoing risk management and compliance; Provide technical support to operational teams, including fault analysis and system improvements; and Assist in the development and maintenance of mechanical procedures, emergency response plans, and technical documentation. About You The ideal candidate will be a qualified Mechanical Engineer with proven experience delivering technical projects within infrastructure, utilities, or water sectors. You will be confident working across both design and site-based activities, and capable of advising stakeholders at various levels. Essential Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia); Minimum five years of post-graduate experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within the water industry; Knowledge of mechanical construction standards, practices, and water infrastructure systems in Australia; Ability to prepare and interpret technical documentation, specifications, and engineering drawings; Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills; Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office; exposure to engineering software and SCADA systems is desirable; and Valid “C” class driver’s licence. Desirable Attributes White Card (Construction Induction); Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), or working towards registration; Knowledge of water industry operational and maintenance practices; and Membership with Engineers Australia.
