ABOUT THE ROLE Chemical Tray Truck Driver is responsible for operating commercial heavy vehicles to safely transport Omega Chemicals' goods and materials from one location to another in South Australia. This role involves loading, unloading, and delivering Omega Chemicals products and materials to customers, distribution centres, and other designated destinations while ensuring the highest safety and delivery standards. The driver must possess excellent driving skills, a thorough understanding of chemical classifications, and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies. This role may include overnight paid travel as required on long-haul trips. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Safe Transportation : Operate a commercial (DG transport) heavy vehicle to transport various types of chemicals and dangerous goods in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. Load and Unload : Safely load and unload chemical containers, IBC’s, drums, and other packaging from the truck using proper equipment and procedures, ensuring that items are secured and stable for transit in line with the NTC load restraint guide. Documentation : Complete all required paperwork accurately and promptly, including manifests, run sheets, driver logbooks and any other documentation necessary for compliance and record-keeping. Safety Compliance : Ensure full compliance with hazardous materials regulations, including proper labelling, placarding, and documentation of hazardous materials and Chain of Responsibility requirements. Fatigue Management : Must obtain, carry, understand, and complete National Driver Work Diary when operating fatigue-related vehicles (over 12T) when travelling outside 100km radius from base, and must adhere to Standard Hours of Fatigue Management. Personal Protective Equipment : Comply with company policies and safety regulations regarding PPE, and ensure that the required PPE is worn consistently and correctly during work tasks in accordance with guidelines. Emergency Response : Thorough knowledge of emergency response procedures, including spill containment. Respond promptly and appropriately to accidents, spills, leaks, or other incidents. Vehicle Maintenance : Conduct routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck, including tyres, brakes, lights, and other mechanical components. Report any maintenance issues to Fleet Maintenance and ensure that the truck is in safe working condition. Communication : Maintain open communication with internal and external stakeholders, providing updates on the status of shipments, delays, or any incidents that may occur during transit. Professionalism : Uphold a professional demeanour and appearance while interacting with customers, coworkers, and regulatory officials. Represent the company positively and contribute to a safe and respectful work environment. IDEALLY, YOU WILL BRING Current Dangerous Goods Driver Licence (or willing to obtain). Current HR Drivers Licence (essential) with an excellent driving record. Must have National Driver Work Diary (Fatigue related vehicles). Current Forklift Licence (LF). Previous experience carrying Dangerous Goods (preferred but not essential). Good knowledge of the Australian Dangerous Goods requirements. A genuine commitment to safety and applying safe-working practices. A motivated work ethic with the ability to work unsupervised. Excellent communication skills.
