The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush. We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers. About the role: The Horse Driver is responsible for contributing to the Horse Department’s day to day operations in Sovereign Hill’s large horse complex, paddocks and stables by assisting with the care of horses, cleaning of the stables, driving non passenger and passenger vehicles and moving horses to their required locations. Responsibilities: • Assist with medication and physical exercise required for ill or injured horses in line with vet specified care or as directed by Horse Operations Manager • Obtain and apply the skills and knowledge to safely and professionally drive 2 horse non-passenger and passenger horse drawn vehicles • Driving of Sovereign Hill passenger and non-passenger vehicles excluding the Drag and Coach • Conduct Stable Tours as required • Undertake unsupervised complex and stables work • Feed and groom horses in the various stables, complex and paddocked areas • Assist with general harnessing Desired Qualifications and Experience: • Experience in driving 2-4 horse drawn vehicles is essential, with at least 3 years’ experience preferred • Confident public speaking and communication skills • Demonstrated experience in administering basic medications, as instructed. • Ability to work across flexible rosters including weekends, public holidays and school holidays • Excellent horse handling skills with a knowledge and understanding of horse behaviour Child Safety and Criminal History Checks – Sovereign Hill is committed to child safety.
