The Water Engineering Team plays an important role in addressing Fortescue’s surface water management and water systems engineering challenges for new studies, projects and existing operations. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Water System Engineer to come on board to support the strategic planning for operation water management development, and studies for a growing portfolio of projects. As well as good technical ability, the successful candidate will possess excellent project management and inter-personal skills, will be adaptable and self-motivated. This position offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to develop professionally across various aspects of the resource sector. The role will be Perth-based but includes opportunities for site work. Key Responsibilities Lead, project manage and undertake technical studies in water management systems for operational mine sites, studies, and regional integrated water management strategy, including but not limited to dewatering, reinjection, water supply and supplementation systems. Lead the strategic planning for water infrastructure system development including the integration with groundwater management strategy and mine plan development; water system option assessments; hydraulic modelling; scope initiation and conceptual design for water management system. Provide technical support, in a planning capacity, to project delivery, operations and mine planning in relation to water management system at our operational sites. Provide technical inputs for approvals relating to water management. Work and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive and deliver water management systems study outcomes. Attend site when required to participate site-based activities such as stakeholder consultations and water management system investigations. Provide process improvement and technical mentorship to maintain team functionality Maintain a collaborative relationship with other functions of the business on all aspects of water management and contribute to knowledge building and awareness. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline Demonstrated relevant experience, particularly in large scale water system planning Understanding of water infrastructure system, pipes and pump design, preferably in mine water management setting. Understanding of hydraulics of water system, and use of hydraulic modelling tools / software (e.g. WaterGEMS) and supporting spatial GIS tools/software Strong project management/delivery skills in water-in-mining settings Western Australian Driver’s Licence Desired skills, qualifications and experience: Understanding of hydrogeology and groundwater management.
