About the role This position reports directly to the Director, NPI & Systems Engineering at Tritium Pty Ltd and is based in Murarrie, Brisbane. We are looking for a Senior Engineer, New Product Introduction (NPI) & Prototyping to drive the execution of custom part releases, ensuring a seamless handoff from product development to full-scale production. In this role, you will own the detail: releasing engineering drawings, managing complex BOMs through EVT and DVT phases, and ensuring no part falls through the cracks. You will lead procurement tracking for prototyping and production ramp-up, with a strong focus on risk mitigation and supplier accountability. Deep experience with plastic injection moulding and die casting is essential, along with a hands-on approach to DFM reviews, tooling strategy, and supplier performance tracking. You will plan and run DFM meetings, track design updates, and drive the part readiness needed to hit aggressive launch targets. We need someone who thinks ahead, sweats the details, and is relentless in executing against the plan. This is a critical role for a high-energy engineer ready to lead through action and results. Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to: Champion Prototype Build / Assembly: • Manage product development prototyping work packages and drive continuous improvement within the prototyping function. • Lead the enhancement of Tritium’s prototyping workshop by introducing advanced tools and machines where feasible, aiming to support faster prototyping and improve production efficiency. • Identify, evaluate, and establish strategic partnerships with external rapid prototyping vendors to complement in-house capabilities. Support New Product Introduction: • Collaborate with the product development team to align design requirements, roadmaps, and specifications. • Lead NPI activities for charger-level product transition, ensuring seamless integration from prototype to production. • Participate in design freeze reviews, ensuring design completeness and production readiness. • Implement design-to-cost strategies, working closely with cross-functional teams to balance manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. • Coordinate with the supply chain to identify critical components, assess suppliers, and develop procurement strategies. • Coordinate tooling procurement process from CAD model refinements and release through to PPAP. • Engage with suppliers to perform DFM and ensure supplier quality protocols are in place for new components and review engineering drawings of components to ensure inspection dimensions are as required. • Identify fixturing, jigs, go/no-go inspection jigs, gauges are other provisions to ensure parts are created properly and inspection is completed as required to ensure proper fit and function of the components. • Prepare production facilities, equipment, and teams to ensure smooth transitions and adherence to design for assembly (DFA) principles. • Oversee testing and qualification of prototypes and production tooling in collaboration with manufacturing teams. • Support production ramp-up, monitor initial pilot runs, and troubleshoot to resolve any issues efficiently. • Act as the primary liaison with our Tennessee manufacturing site, visiting as needed to ensure a smooth production transition. • Ensure proper documentation of NPI processes and provide status updates to management and stakeholders. • Oversee the transition from prototype builds to full-scale production, ensuring product quality, compliance, and readiness. Other: • Stay current with advancements in DC fast chargers and EV technologies to drive innovation within the company. • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and efficient work environment, helping to mentor junior engineers where necessary. • Ensure effective cross-functional team communication and collaboration to meet project and quality goals. • Work within the framework of ISO9001 and other relevant standards to maintain quality control throughout product development and production phases. • Act as a liaison with key stakeholders, including external vendors and suppliers, to ensure product quality and manufacturing timelines. • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and share knowledge and best practices with the broader team. About you • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering. • Minimum of 8 years of experience in product introduction, manufacturing engineering, or related fields. • Proven experience in transitioning complex power electronics products to production. • Strong knowledge of DFM, DFA, automated testing, EOL testing, and IQC testing. • Strong understanding of production processes such as plastic injection moulding, die casting and sheet metal fabrication and welding. • Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills. • A strong grasp of the product development lifecycle for complex systems. • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. • Proven track record of being hands-on in a manufacturing environment, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues on the factory floor. • Willingness to travel to manufacturing facilities as needed, ensuring a smooth product transition. • Exceptional attention to detail in managing BOMs, testing protocols, and technical documentation.
