About the program: AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace. Your responsibilities will include: Reporting to the Hardware Engineering Manager, the Hardware Communications Engineer will contribute to the implementation of the Deployed Communications Component and Networked Voice Components for the AIR6500 Mission System. In this role, you will: Contribute to plans, direct, review and coordinate preparation of project documentations to ensure customer requirements are achieved whilst following company policies processes and procedures Work within an agile team alongside Systems and Software Engineers to collaboratively execute joint engineering activities as part of Agile Release plans Participate in hardware activities including: set to work, integration and verification testing as required. Provide support as required, with technical vendor engagement such as through development of Statement of Work and review of vendor responses (including contract deliverables) Maintain appropriate working relationships, whilst providing guidance to a range of stakeholders across the AIR6500 Program with respect to Hardware Engineering activities focussing on Communications equipment Undertake requirements analysis processes and techniques with a focus on the system communications sub-system and associated products About you: To be successful in this role you will also have: You will have proven experience in an engineering development lifecycle of requirements analysis, design, implementation and testing. Inclusive of the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships within teams and with Customers, and evidence of strong planning and organisational skills. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry) Knowledge in Communications systems (e.g. microwave, wireless, fixed; with SATCOM and UHF/VHF/HF ideal) and associated products; Experience in design capture (as-built) for hardware equipment using relevant tools (e.g. preparation of ENG-410 Engineering Drawings Deliverables) Would be desirable (not required): Understanding in the design and implementation of complex Communication system architectures for deployed systems, which may include: Relevant Specialist knowledge in Communication design and implementation and Experience with IBTN / C4i Voice Comms System experience is beneficial Experience in vendor engagement such as through development of Statement of Work, and the review of resulting deliverables Special Requirements: Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance and employment may be contingent on the provision of further personal information including citizenship to ensure compliance with international export control legislation and regulations.
