Company Description Dawson Mine Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. Dawson Mine is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits - Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland with no signs of slowing down. Dawson Mine is rich in history, it was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963 – join the legacy today! Job Description Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Senior Mining Engineer will help lead and mentor a small team of mining engineers, surveyors and geologists to deliver best practice plans and technical advice for Dawson’s Mining Operations. This role is focused on facilitating engagement between technical and production teams at all levels to gather input, communicate mine plans and schedules, and to ensure that the production processes are optimised in order to continuously increase the operational efficiency. In addition, you will utilise your experience to integrate planning process into the wider short and medium term mine plans and communicating these outcomes to critical stakeholders. The role will be rewarding and varied and will involve the following: Deliver support services designs according to the defined business standards and geotechnical design guidelines. Monitor compliance to plan through site systems and field inspections. Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly reporting routines. Development of Truck and Excavator dig and dump designs, reserves, haulage models, infrastructure plans, and technical risks/opportunities evaluation. Engagement with operations at all levels to seek buy-in to plan development, communicate outcomes and monitor progress. Collaborate with site technical peers to develop and present a detailed weekly plan and contribute to an integrated 3 month schedule for the Open Cut operation with interactions highlighted and problem solved to successful outcomes. Providing input and guidance to the operating model’s planning activities. Contribute to building a performance-oriented culture that embraces inclusivity and values diversity, technical expertise, and provides a safe working practice for all. Continuously improve the processes and systems capability to optimise compliance for short term mine planning. Training and mentoring of engineers and the wider short term planning team. Qualifications To be successful in this position you will ideally have experience in the following: Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent. Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a similar diversified high level operational asset. Proficient in Deswik CAD, or equivalent Mine Design CAD software. Demonstrated Mining Engineering experience in open cut coal operations, including exposure to Draglines, Truck & Excavator and Drill & Blast processes. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Demonstrated experience in risk management techniques and critical controls. Demonstrated experience in developing continuous improvement ideas. Knowledge of the QLD Coal Mining Legislation and Coal Mining practices.
