Job Description Position: APS5 Security Administration Officer Location: Canberra, ACT (on-site) Estimated Start Date: ASAP Duration: Approx. 12 months with potential to extend Hourly Rate: $57.50 - $61.44 plus 11%% superannuation Security Clearan JOB OVERVIEW An opportunity exists for an experienced and detail-oriented APS5 Security Administration Officer to join a federal government department in a critical security support role. This position will see you coordinating and managing the administration of security clearances and contributing to a range of security-related processes and administrative functions. This is a fast-paced role suited to someone who enjoys structured work, is highly organised, and can manage competing priorities under pressure. You'll be part of a supportive team focused on maintaining the integrity of personnel security processes. DUTIES Process criminal records checks and vetting applications. Manage security-related correspondence and respond to internal and external enquiries. Coordinate and track clearance applications and update internal systems accordingly. Liaise with stakeholders and external vetting providers to support end-to-end clearance processes. Provide procedural advice on security clearance requirements in line with government frameworks. Draft delegate briefings and prepare documentation for approvals. Compile compliance and forecast reports to assist with workload planning. Provide client service support at the department's security counter. Maintain Standard Operating Procedures related to clearance administration. Assist with internal projects and policy development as required. Review department files in line with archival requirements. Provide general administrative support to the broader security team. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential: Strong organisational, administrative, and time management skills. Excellent judgement and communication skills. Proven ability to follow policy, work autonomously, and contribute to team outcomes. High attention to detail and capability to manage competing priorities. Desirable: Qualifications in Government (Security Vetting/PERSEC) – Cert III or IV preferred. Familiarity with the Australian Government’s Protective Security Policy Framework. Experience in processing security clearance applications and working with high volumes. Understanding of public service values, conduct codes, and compliance frameworks IMPORTANT This is a security-designated position – candidates must hold a current NV1 clearance prior to commencement.
