About the role AEMO’s Operations Technology Program (OTP) team is responsible for driving the transformation our change agenda for the operational data, systems and processes needed to support continued secure efficient operation of the National Electricity Market (NEM), while enabling the transition of the power system towards 100% renewables. You will be responsible for the management and delivery of operations project support, with an emphasis on co-ordination of the technical and operational work required across the business and industry to prepare for and support changes in operational strategies, processes and operational tools development. You’ll engage with teams across the business to think of innovative ways of working and identify technical solutions in operations technology and tools. A key piece will be engagement with not just our local Gas and Electricity operations teams but also international system operators to understand and gain insights from their operational processes and tools. What you will be doing Manage OTP projects to ensure AEMO and external parties are prepared for future operation. This includes managing risks to ensure that project delivery is to the appropriate levels of quality, on time and in accordance with the project plan. Manage AEMO’s collaboration with external and internal parties by ensuring that individual project issues are constructively resolved, focusing on tangible outcomes. Ensure that decision making is fact-based, robustly documented, pragmatic and transparent. Provide technical/operational advice, scope of works, business requirements and decision making, utilising constructive and open problem solving, across the areas of energy market operational dispatch/forecasts, settlements, modelling, voltage control, system strength and inertia. Prepare clear, concise and high quality written and verbal communication to inform internal and external stakeholders on a range of issues for both technical and non-technical audiences. Proactively build AEMO’s reputation as a trusted partner to Government, Network Service Providers, Market Participants, Customers and other stakeholders. Contribute to the development of the Operations Technology Program and the development for tools, services and processes required to operate a complex power system and market-based operation. What you will bring to the role We are broad, innovative thinkers, who have a passion for considering solutions within uncertain conditions. You will require Tertiary qualifications in engineering, computer science, business, project management or technology-related field or equivalent industry experience. Significant experience in engineering or managing small to large projects, preferably across a range of industries including within the energy industry. Demonstrated experience in leading and supporting technical projects. Demonstrated experience in owning and proactively delivering projects, and practicing a service oriented, outcome-focused and pragmatic approach to problem solving. Experience in negotiating the resolution of complex technical issues across stakeholders with competing objectives and a variety of commercial and reputational drivers. Ability to communicate technical/engineering concepts to the non-technical audience in a clear and easy to understand language. Knowledge of the electricity/gas industry, NEM dispatch process, settlements, load/generator behaviour and network constraints.
