This position may work with, or around, Crystalline Silica. It is a requirement of the role to read and understand information relating to Silica: 1. What is Crystalline Silica? Crystalline silica is the crystalline form of silicon dioxide, or silica, a naturally occurring mineral that forms a major component of most rocks. The most common type of crystalline silica is quartz, which is found in sand, stone and granite. 2. What are the Health Risks? Respirable crystalline silica can be harmful when it becomes airborne and is inhaled. Exposure to high concentrations over a short period of time, or low to medium concentrations over a long period of time can lead to serious diseases, including: silicosis lung cancer kidney disease autoimmune disease 3.
