Senior Legal Counsel, Competition — Sydney CBD, Sydney

An exciting opportunity for a dedicated competition lawyer in one of Australia’s leading banks. Highly autonomous role in a dynamic team. You will have broad exposure across the CBA Group and manage a broad range of competition law matters. Hybrid working arrangements available. See yourself in CBA’s Competition Legal team : Legal and Group Services provides advice, insights and trusted partnerships to help the Group deliver its purpose and strategy. The Competition Legal team provides Group-wide, specialist competition law advice and support the Group’s strategic projects. Our work includes: Providing day to day competition law advice, industry initiatives and advocacy, M&A advice and strategy. Advising on Group projects, partnerships and structuring arrangements. Leading the Group’s ACCC engagement (including authorisations, inquiries, proceedings and investigations). Do work that matters: Work as a senior member of the Competition Legal team, providing specialist competition law advice to CBA’s business units, regarding products, services, transactions and activities. Lead effective, proactive and thoughtful engagement with key stakeholders and senior management across the Group; provide insights on competition risk and enforcement and strategies to mitigate that risk. Where necessary, manage external legal engagement on specific matters, transactions or regulatory responses. Actively contribute to team culture excelling in customer service, simplifying processes and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Where opportunities arise, lead, mentor and develop the team’s Legal Counsel/Junior Legal Counsels. We’re interested in hearing from people with : Minimum 6 years PQE with a current practising certificate. Experience in heavily regulated industries (banking, energy, telecommunications, pharma, transport) will be beneficial. Deep competition law experience, strong analytical skills, and experience in engaging with the ACCC or other competition regulators. A demonstrated ability to build and influence trusted relationships across large and varied stakeholder groups, then partner with those groups to drive commercial outcomes. An ability to lead responses to complex regulatory and legal investigations, and coordinate regulatory engagement across large organisations.
