Our world-renowned, multi-disciplinary New Product Development Team is based in Sydney and comprises of highly experienced researchers, food specialists, industrial designers, UX designers, mechanical design engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers and quality engineers. About the role We value enthusiasm, positivity and your ability to work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver best-in-class small domestic appliances to our global markets. You are ambassadors for the brand and its products, and are interested in creating new standards in food results to create more engaging and rewarding user experiences through improved product interactions and food results. You will have sufficient experience and knowledge to make appropriate decisions around design related topics, from concept generation and iterative development, through to part detailing and liaising with stakeholders. Your contribution will compliment a team of like-minded individuals, ensuring that consumer insights and the commercial viability of your product is balanced with its manufacturing feasibility. You will design products that are aligned with Breville’s brand values and corporate aesthetic to provide customers with seamless experiences and unrivalled food results. This is a 6-months fixed term contract based in Alexandria, Sydney. Key responsibilities: Develop products in terms of proposed schedules and cost targets. Identify and delegate work to other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Contribute to project research phases pertaining managing aspects of required activities. Contribute to appropriate product/component detailing during the development and industrialization phases of product development. Develop form sympathetic to Breville’s brand language and in line with Breville’s Design Direction Philosophy. Develop novel solutions and recognize opportunities with strategic value to Breville and work with the IP team to navigate the IP landscape. Challenge assumptions and create imaginative and innovative solutions with a humble attitude and a food thinking approach Consider different point of views, business values and needs to effectively build arguments and negotiate across parties while fostering autonomy, trust and accountability. Communicate and collaborate with members of multi-disciplinary teams and other stakeholders within Breville’s matrix organizational structure to successfully develop and launch projects. Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders outside of Breville (suppliers etc.) to successfully develop and launch projects. Qualifications and experience Appropriate tertiary qualification. Minimum of 10 years’ experience, exposed to best practice product development. Conceptual design skills (comfortable with uncertainty, lateral approach, value analysis, intuitive, brain storming). CAD literacy (2D drawing, 3D solid modelling, graphic design software, image manipulation). Detail design skills (component design, design for manufacture/reliability). Hand model making (concept models, visual models). Prototyping (sketch models, form studies, RP). Visualisation (hand sketching, 2D drafting, rendering). Demonstrated experience of appropriate mass production manufacturing techniques and materials selection. Key attributes A curious, open-minded and humble attitude. Great communication skills.
