About the Role We are seeking Expressions of Interest for an experienced Legal Counsel with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in construction law, major projects, infrastructure, and/or general commercial law to provide strategic support across a large-scale infrastructure initiative. You will be part of a legal team, preparing and negotiating a range of commercial agreements and providing sound legal advice on matters arising throughout the project lifecycle. About You You will be a lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws, admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia, and at least five years of post-qualification experience in an infrastructure company, Australian infrastructure business, or a reputable law firm’s infrastructure/resources group. You will demonstrate expertise in infrastructure development, delivery, and operations, a strong understanding of regulatory and approval processes including FIRB, proven skills in drafting and negotiating contracts such as construction, maintenance, consultancy, supply, finance, NDAs, and commercial agreements, the ability to address complex issues across all phases, excellent commercial contracting and relationship-building skills, superior communication and drafting abilities with attention to detail, persuasive negotiation skills, a proactive and results-oriented approach with strong organizational skills, and the capacity to work independently or collaboratively while managing multiple priorities and embracing new tasks. Key Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including construction, maintenance, consultancy, supply, NDAs, and commercial agreements. Support procurement by reviewing and advising on tender documents and responses from a legal perspective. Ensure adherence to the Infrastructure Development Agreement, interpreting its provisions as needed. Provide legal input on the Infrastructure Deed, including review and negotiation. Assess and secure FIRB approval if required. Assist with financing arrangements, reviewing and finalizing related documents. Support obtaining necessary infrastructure approvals and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Offer general legal guidance, identifying risks and proposing mitigation strategies. Ability to address complex issues during development, delivery, and operational phases. Strong commercial contracting skills and acumen. Excellent relationship-building, communication, and drafting skills with attention to detail. Persuasive negotiation skills to represent business objectives. Proactive, self-motivated, and results-oriented with strong organizational skills. Comfortable working independently or collaboratively, managing multiple priorities, and tackling new tasks.
