About the Role Say goodbye to billable hours and timesheets! Due to growth within the firm, BDO’s in-house legal team is looking to recruit a full-time, junior to mid-level commercial lawyer. This is an exciting opportunity to learn from an experienced legal team across a broad range of practice areas. This role will suit lawyers looking to maintain a broad commercial practice and who are interested in being a trusted legal adviser to the firm. You may be based in either Brisbane , Melbourne or Sydney . This is a hybrid role with a mix of in-office and work from home days available. How your impact will be felt Working with the General Counsel, Head of Legal and senior lawyers in the team, you will have prior commercial legal experience, ideally in a private practice setting. Prior inhouse experience is not a pre-requisite to this role. You will deal with a broad range of legal matters, and your responsibilities include: Focus on drafting and advising on various client and commercial contracts; enhance your ability to negotiate and manage complex agreements. Assisting with various legal matters including privacy and other regulatory issues, employment law matters and investigations, disputes and litigation as well as special projects (prior experience in these areas is not essential) Researching legal issues and supporting senior lawyers; deepen your understanding of various legal principles and enhance your ability to provide commercial and well-informed advice. Company secretarial support; gain exposure to corporate governance Updating the business on legal developments and providing training; enhance your ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance. Do you have the following? You enjoy working in a friendly, collaborative and high-performing environment. You have commercial acumen and a strong work ethic, as well as the following: Bachelor of Laws (or Juris Doctor) and eligible to practice in an Australian State or Territory. Likely suit someone with 2-4 years PQE (private practice experience will be highly regarded). An interest in contracts/commercial law and maintaining a broad practice. Research and analysis: ability to interpret the law and develop practical and commercial solutions.
