We are looking for a Mechanical designer for a 4 month contract working for an Owner's team with a focus on green energy projects. This will be working Monday to Friday, 38 hours a week, between $75 - $100 per hour Super. Key Responsibilities: • System Design: Design and develop the 3D design model of a locomotive assembly incorporating electrical systems including power distribution, control, auxiliary and traction systems. • Detailed Engineering Design: Interpret detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and translate the information to 3D space. • Integration: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into the overall design. • Cost Management: Assist in cost estimation for components and systems, optimizing designs for cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality. • Testing and Troubleshooting: Participate in the testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems, identifying and resolving issues during prototype and production phases. • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of mechanical and electrical designs, changes, and revisions throughout the project lifecycle. • CAD Proficiency: Utilise Siemens NX, SolidWorks and AutoCAD software proficiently for drafting, modelling, and creating 2D and 3D drawings. • CAD Management: Support the buildup of comprehensive CAD assemblies with 5000 parts whilst adhering to product data management processes in workflows. • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers to ensure project success. • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all electrical & mechanical designs adhere to quality standards and are aligned with project objectives. • Ability to work from Redcliffe location. Qualifications And Experience: • Mechanical engineering degree. • Minimum 3 years’ experience in design & drafting in 2D and 3D space. • Exposure in designing at a concept level to quickly mock up designs, as well as full detailed design with full production and assembly detail. • Proficiency in Siemens NX preferable, otherwise SolidWorks and AutoCAD for mechanical design. • Strong understanding of electrical & mechanical engineering principles and practices. • Knowledge of battery electric vehicle or train systems is preferred. • Sound knowledge of Design for Manufacture & Design for Assembly. • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to Rail and Locomotives highly regarded. • Strong problem-solving and communication skills. • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and safety. • Ability to work autonomously. • High commitment to safety • Skilled in rapid problem solving.
