APS Level 6 - User Experience Designer — Canberra Region, Australian Capital Territory

The Museum has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our growing Digital team in the Growth and Engagement Division at the National Museum of Australia. This is a unique chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Museum and enhancing its digital experiences as we embark on an exciting digital transformation journey. The User Experience Designer plays a crucial role in crafting innovative and cutting-edge digital experiences, with a strong emphasis on human-centered design and continuous improvement. This position is essential in ensuring that the National Museum of Australia delivers outstanding digital experiences through thoughtful feature design, engaging content, and a commitment to ongoing delivery, all while adhering to modern accessibility best practices. As part of our dynamic Digital team, the User Experience Designer will actively contribute to the enhancement of existing digital services and support the execution of various projects and programs. They will be responsible for designing, testing, and evaluating solutions to ensure that both stakeholder and agency requirements are met. By interpreting evidence-based research, the User Experience Designer will integrate valuable insights into their work, ensuring high-quality design outcomes. The key duties of the position include Key accountabilities Use evidence-based approaches to assist in the creation of accessible solutions centred on users' needs, aims and behaviour that meet agency standards and guidelines. Apply user centred design/user experience design (UX) methodology to deliver enterprise outcomes and improvements to stakeholder and user experiences. Identify user needs, business requirements and undertake rapid and iterative prototyping using agency prototyping tools. Adhere and contribute to relevant UI design patterns, frameworks and governance (including application of branding). Design assets such as user flows, prototypes, wireframes and other assets for proof of concept and usability testing. Design across a range of outputs including the web and museum interfaces. Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to achieve strategic objectives. Presentation Skills: Proficiency in presenting design concepts and rationale to various audiences, including team members and stakeholders. Staying Current: Commitment to keeping up with design trends, tools, and best practices to ensure the design system remains relevant and effective. Skills, experience and qualifications Essential: Proven experience in Wireframing, Prototyping and Interactive Design Demonstrated experience to leading and supporting quantitative research activities with internal and external users. Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a multidisciplinary team in the development and implementation of high-quality digital products. Demonstrated high-level communication skills, including the ability to write for a range of audiences, and to negotiate successfully with diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated experience working with design Tools and proficiency in design software. Desirable: Experience developing design systems
