Position: Engineering Teacher (Specialising in Welding) FTE: Sessional (4 days a week) Location: Loddon Prison Salary: $82.01 per hour (Dependent on qualifications and experience) About the Role Being an Engineering/Welding Teacher at Loddon Prison is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact. In this role, you will teach hands-on welding techniques, while equipping students with valuable trade skills for future employment. Teaching in a correctional setting requires adaptability, patience, and a commitment to rehabilitation through education. You'll play a key role in empowering students, giving them the chance to develop practical skills to use both during their time within the correctional facility but also as they integrate into society. Key Responsibilities Deliver high-quality engineering/welding education - Tailored to student needs. Ensure Safety & Compliance – Educate students on workplace safety, proper equipment usage, and industry regulations. Support Rehabilitation & Career Development – Help students build confidence and prepare for employment opportunities post-release. Maintain Workshop & Equipment – Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of welding tools and machinery. Foster a Positive Learning Environment – Encourage teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving skills in a supportive setting. Provide hands-on learning experiences - To enhance student engagement. Key Requirements A relevant qualification in Engineering/ Welding or a related field. TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (AQF 4) or willing to enrol. Or have obtained the equivalent TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment plus the following two units: TAELLN 411/TAELLN401A Address Adult Language, Literacy & Numeracy Skills TAEASS502/TAEASS502A/TAEASS502B: Design and Develop Assessment Tools Teaching experience, in vocational education or correctional settings is preferable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable to work within an engineering workshop. A commitment to student success and rehabilitation through education.
