Lawyers - Legal Officer - Legal Counsel — Newcastle Area, Newcastle Region

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING As a lawyer within our legal team, you will support, advise and partner with key stakeholders to review and provide consistent interpretation of legislation relating to the Coal Long Service Leave Scheme and address legal and regulatory issues that arise for Coal LSL. You will: Provide expert legal advice on the legal issues that arise in the interpretation and application of Coal LSL’s legislation Advise on employer compliance under the Coal LSL scheme and the implementation by Coal LSL of regulatory and administrative processes Demonstrate technical knowledge and understanding of the legislative regime and legal authority that governs the Coal LSL scheme Effectively manage workflow and report on progress Review evidence and document factual findings, undertake legal research, analysis and prepare clear concise correspondence to support performance of regulatory functions Actively contribute to the engagement with employers and employees concerning legal and regulatory issues in escalated cases Advise and make recommendations on regulatory and legal action required to resolve escalated issues Engage with external legal service providers, including preparing and overseeing briefs, instructing in court, tribunals and/or mediations, reviewing advice and providing practical interpretations and application of the advice Develop consultative working relationships with the key internal stakeholders to contribute your expertise to Coal LSL initiatives to enhance the regulation and administration of the scheme Initiate and develop knowledge sharing, expertise and skills within the Legal team, educating the organisation and key stakeholders on regulatory functions These are permanent positions at varying levels of experience, based in Newcastle. Your background will demonstrate your: Ability to produce high quality analysis and legal advice utilising analytical and problem-solving skills Capacity to critically analyse issues and develop and implement effective strategies and solutions that support business goals Aptitude for working effectively with internal and external stakeholders Attention to detail and a methodical work process Competency to work on tasks independently, whilst still contributing to the team environment Excellent communication skills including presentation skills and the ability to prepare high quality written reports, policies, action plans, correspondence and other documentation as required Desirable Experience in the provision of legal advice within the public-sector or a highly regulated environment Litigation experience Expertise in an industrial relations context You will have a bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent with a current NSW practising certificate.
