Senior Instructional Designer — Wurtulla, Maroochydore Area

Be responsible for leading, designing, developing, and implementing functional, sustainable, and engaging learning experiences across the business. The role The Senior Instructional Designer leads, designs, develops, and implements functional, sustainable, and engaging learning experiences delivered across the business. They are responsible for collaborating with the Learning Improvement Directorate and curriculum experts to design and develop innovative online professional learning resources. The key focus of the role is to support the Instructional Design stream, as well as manage the design and implementation of high-quality, relevant, purposeful, and engaging blended learning solutions. These solutions should incorporate evidence-based design principles that support learning outcomes and align with Auto & General’s culture of “high performance with high integrity.” The Instructional Designer specialises in writing and structuring content in a clear and succinct way that facilitates learner acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies. The role is an integral part of the Learning & Development team and works closely with the team to ensure stakeholder needs are met. Position Accountabilities Learning Design Lead the design, development, and optimisation of impactful learning experiences with clear objectives, logical structure, effective instruction, and competency-based assessments. Use various tools and methods to design blended learning interventions (e.g., digital learning, on-the-job, exposure-based, self-paced, or classroom-based). Support training needs analysis to identify skill gaps where learning interventions can help. Monitor, evaluate, and recommend learning initiatives in response to business needs, emerging industry trends, and regulatory changes. Translating Learning Content into Operational Needs Collaborate with L&D teams to develop instructional material for online courses, participant resources, workshops, multimedia, and assessments. Provide recommendations on learning strategy development and implementation. Align and embed Auto & General’s strategic goals and customer priorities at the operational level within the learning strategy. Stakeholder Management Engage stakeholders to define learning needs and lead the development of appropriate learning solutions. Act as an active, proactive contributor within the business and L&D team. Contribute to developing and refining core business and role-specific competencies. Coach and mentor on the design and development of effective learning interventions. Demonstrate self-management and influence others positively. Capability Development Create accessible, fit-for-purpose learning programs. Ensure equitable access to training opportunities. Support team performance aligned with company goals through monitoring, measurement, and continuous improvement. Model high standards of performance and positively influence teams, resolve conflicts, and communicate the company’s purpose and strategy. Operations Maximise service delivery through effective capacity planning and supplier management. Ensure the L&D function complies with company risk management, governance, and accountability frameworks. Maintain awareness of company policies and complete mandatory training, including workplace health and safety. What experience you’ll bring Qualifications & Experience Essential Minimum 5 years of experience in a Learning & Development role. Proven experience in instructional design. Excellent knowledge of learning theories, instructional design models, and blended learning principles. Ability to write effective instructional content, including copy, scripts, and online learning material. Strong written communication skills across formats (e.g., online adult learning). Demonstrated experience designing and managing learning programs aligned with business outcomes. Proven ability to write engaging, learner-focused content. Sound editing and proofreading skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve outcomes. Strong consultative and collaborative stakeholder management skills. Resourcefulness and a proactive approach to challenges. Strong organisational and management skills; ability to handle multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to participate in team decisions and manage change. Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (TAE). Working knowledge of databases and Learning Management Systems (LMS). Desirable Experience in a dynamic service operation. Background in the Banking, Finance & Insurance industry. Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
