Legal Counsel, Corporate & Commercial $148,113.00 per annum superannuation Full time, ongoing opportunity Wadawurrung / Geelong based role (hybrid – 3 days a week in office) About the role The Legal Counsel, Corporate & Commercial will be responsible for providing corporate and commercial legal advice, managing commercial and administrative law matters and conducting litigation on behalf of WorkSafe. Key accountabilities Provide high quality, client focused, strategic and practical legal advice and assistance to all divisions of WorkSafe and WorkSafe/TAC joint collaborations, on various corporate and commercial legal issues with a focus on contract law, information technology, administrative law, corporate governance and procurement Effectively negotiate commercial agreements and disputes Manage civil and administrative review litigation on behalf of WorkSafe with the assistance of the Manager, Corporate & Commercial and Senior Legal Counsel, Corporate & Commercial Analyse and interpret complex legislation, including the various Acts, Orders and Regulations and provide comprehensive, authoritative and practical operational and administrative law advice Provide effective legal risk management services Assist the Manager, Corporate and Commercial to develop legal skills of legal officers in the provision of corporate and commercial legal advice including on litigation, administrative law, tenders, contracts, trade practices, trademarks, real property, intellectual property and other business law issues Prepare (or assist with the preparation of) briefing papers for the Board, Chief Executive Officer and Executive leaders on matters requiring their attention Brief and manage external counsel to provide high quality legal services on behalf of WorkSafe and/or joint collaborations Please ensure you review the Position Description here for additional information on accountabilities for this role. About you You are an experienced legal professional, with the ability to consult on sensitive issues and offer constructive solutions within critical timeframes. Your communication, negotiation and organisational skills are highly developed, and your strong interpersonal skills allow you to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You have the ability to work independently, as well as a part of a high performing team. Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience: Holds or eligible to hold a practicing certificate as an Australian Legal Practitioner Demonstrated experience providing quality corporate and commercial legal advice with a focus on contract law, corporate governance, real property, administrative law, trademarks, procurement, trade practices and intellectual property Demonstrated ability to assist identifying and achieving improvements to processes and procedures to improve service delivery and manage risk Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on contracts, variations and terminations including complex large scale contracts Demonstrated experience in civil litigation in Victorian court system An understanding of the constraints of a statutory, regulatory environment and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislative provisions and judicial precedent High level strategic, analytical and critical legal decision making capabilities Professional legal qualifications and admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer Working with us At WorkSafe, our goal is for every employee to feel connected, safe, and valued within their team, for teams to feel appreciated in the workplace, and for WorkSafe to be respected in the community.
