About the Opportunity Reporting to the Head of Platform Design, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Detailed Design Manager to lead a large team of Mechanical and Electrical Designers on the Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Program. The role will be responsible for the delivery of the LOTE design to the highest quality standards and in accordance with the program schedule and budgetary constraints. This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA. Responsibilities Oversee the LOTE design, including 3D CAD modelling and 2D drafting work, from system level design right through to component level, ensuring compliance with sound engineering principles, safety and regulatory standards, customer requirements and contract obligations. Liaise with key program stakeholders such as the Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Safety, Signatures, Systems Engineering, and Human Engineering teams to ensure design requirements are considered and incorporated. Ensure designs are completed within the specified budget and timeframe to support the timely and successful project delivery. Drive innovation in design practices by fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and teamwork within the program. Lead the technical development of the design team to support current program demands and future company needs. Provide technical input to resolve design problems and contribute towards effective solutions. Oversee the review and release of LOTE design outputs and acceptance of suppliers’ design documentation. Support the project manager with updates on cost and schedule performance and provide estimates for program planning and future bid work. About you Tertiary qualifications to at least Advanced Diploma in an engineering discipline, or equivalent, satisfying eligibility for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia (MIEAust level) Demonstrated experience (minimum of 5 years) leading a technical team in a complex design, manufacturing and/or maintenance environment. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and lead technical teams. A passion for continuous learning and professional development Practical experience with 3D CAD or 2D CAD systems is required with excellent general computer skills (e.g., experience with Microsoft Office tools) Experience with submarine design is highly desirable. An understanding of defence systems engineering standards and regulations (preferably Defence Seaworthiness) will be highly regarded. A practical understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and processes, and in particular application of configuration management best practice. Eligibility This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level.
