Type : Part-Time Term : Temporary Position Details School Social Worker St Joseph’s School – Waroona is seeking a compassionate and committed School Social Worker (0.4 FTE – 2 days per week) to join our team and contribute to the wellbeing of our students, families, and staff. This role is central to the pastoral care framework of our school, providing professional social work support that nurtures the emotional, social, and mental wellbeing of our school community. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with staff to support students' development and learning, while also being available to families and caregivers as a trusted and approachable presence. As a small, regional school, building a strong sense of community is vital. The Social Worker plays a key role in fostering inclusion and connection by forming positive relationships and being actively visible and accessible to students, parents, and staff. Selection Criteria 1. A commitment to working within and supporting the Catholic ethos of the school, with sensitivity to the values and faith tradition of a Catholic educational community. 2. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work. 3. Demonstrated experience in providing counselling and emotional support to children, ideally in a school or community setting. 4. Ability to engage with students from K–6 using developmentally appropriate techniques such as play-based, art, and mindfulness interventions. 5. Proven capacity to support families with practical strategies, referrals, and brief interventions that promote positive parenting and communication. 6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and school leadership to support student wellbeing and classroom dynamics. 7. Experience in observing and assessing student behaviour and emotional needs in a school context, and providing feedback to staff and parents. 8. Capacity to contribute to statutory reporting and safety planning, including managing sensitive issues with discretion and care. 9. Commitment to building a safe, inclusive, and trusting environment where students feel heard, valued, and supported. 10. Willingness to be an active, supportive, and caring member of a dedicated school staff team, contributing positively to the wider school community. Qualifications Required Cert IV or equivalent qualification in Social Work.
