Legal Counsel Australia Job Description About the Role Reporting to the Manager Legal & Governance, the role is responsible for providing accurate, timely and fit-for-purpose advice on legal issues and the potential legal implications of various business strategies, initiatives and projects. Key duties include: The provision of legal services including general advice, contract and document drafting, briefing and instructing external lawyers, dispute resolution, corporate services, advice to Executive and Board. Advise on a wide variety of law including commercial, leasing, maritime, port law and disputes, security, work health and safety and environmental issues. Assist compliance and governance teams in relation to legal interpretation issues and policy drafting guidance. Assist with the management of statutory framework policies and procedures such as Modern Slavery and Freedom of Information. Provide legal advice to internal stakeholders on contracts and contract negotiations and actively participate in negotiations where appropriate. Support and undertake investigations into significant incidents and have oversight of the compliance of reporting to regulatory agencies in relation to such incidents. Essential Criteria Tertiary qualification in Law. Legal practising certificate with at least 5 years’ PQE and in-house experience. Extensive knowledge of legislative and statutory compliance environments. Front end commercial advisory and drafting experience. An understanding of requirements applying to Government Trading Enterprises within a State Government context. An understanding of contract arrangements in an industrial setting. Ability to collaborate and partner with multiple internal and external stakeholders to calmly deliver outcomes.
