This Role This role will see you leading a high-quality team providing strategic legal and broader compliance and commercial advice to the business, including working closely with Senior Managers and executives to ensure best business outcomes. As well as supervising lawyers, this broad role will see you managing non-lawyers and providing support to the business across board and executive secretariat, general compliance and FOI, and occasional referred insurance claims. The successful applicant will implement and maintain legal processes, documents and staff training, and provide practical legal advice to assist the business meet its goals. They will provide advice on statutory interpretation and state obligations, customer and supplier privacy, procurement, IP, and insurance matters, assist with company secretarial matters, attend Board meetings, and manage external counsel. As part of a relatively newly created division, the General Counsel will have the opportunity to shape and build up a team of lawyers and other professionals with a focus on working collaboratively to meet SA Water’s vision, strategy and plans. The Lawyer we Seek This role will suit senior lawyers with proven experience gained in quality in-house roles in senior positions, either managing a business or complete team and able to provide hands-on legal advice and contractual support to senior executives, including attending board meetings. They will enjoy contributing to a business commercially and be ready to take on a role that will be fast-paced and hands-on, but also strategic in nature. To be considered, you will likely be a well-rounded lawyer with quality training, and around 12 or more years of experience. You will be confident but never arrogant, willing to listen, learn and contribute to the business and uphold its values for the long term.
