Legal Officer, Insurance & Claims * $120,908.00 per annum 11.5% superannuation * Full time, 12 month fixed term opportunity * Wadawurrung / Geelong based role (hybrid – 3 days a week in office) About the role The Legal Officer, Insurance & Claims will be responsible for providing legal advice in relation to workers compensation insurance and claims related issues to relevant WorkSafe divisions. Key accountabilities * Provide high quality, client focused, strategic and practical legal advice and assistance to all divisions of WorkSafe, on various claims and insurance issues with a focus on workers compensation insurance and administrative law * Analyse and interpret legislation, including the various Acts, Orders and Regulations and undertake other research and claims reviews to assist Senior Lawyers in the team prepare advice * Assist with briefing and managing external counsel to provide high quality legal services on behalf of WorkSafe and/or joint collaborations * Work with the Manager and team to prepare and deliver an appropriate range of legal education compliance programs About you You are an experienced legal professional who wants to make a difference. Your communication, negotiation and organisational skills are highly developed, and your strong interpersonal skills allow you to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You have the ability to work independently, as well as a part of a high performing team. Additionally you will possess the following skills and experience: * Post-qualification experience preferred, any experience gained in-house including in-house government teams will be highly regarded * Ability to consult on legal issues within tight timeframes and offer constructive solutions * Experience providing high quality legal advice regarding WorkCover claims and/or other insurance claims advice including advising on disputed decisions, insurance litigation, and administrative law * Understanding of the constraints of a statutory, regulatory environment * Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating contracts * Ability to interpret and apply legislative provisions and judicial precedents * Good written and verbal communication and negotiation skills with strong attention to detail * Ability to prioritise and deal effectively with a diversity of tasks in accordance with deadlines Qualifications * Degree in law * Admitted or eligible to be admitted to practice as lawyer in Victoria * Holds or eligible to hold a practicing certificate as an Australian Legal Practitioner Applications close 11:00pm Friday 23 May 2025.
