Senior Software Engineer - (Observability) | Contract — Melbourne, Melbourne Region

Ready to build the systems behind the systems? If this sounds like your kind of engineering challenge, I'd love to talk. Apply now and help shape how an entire engineering org observes, understands, and improves its platform. Build tools for engineers, by engineers. Shape how software is built, monitored, and scaled. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a hands-on, high-trust engineering team focused on Observability — enabling product teams to ship faster, debug smarter, and sleep better. This is an initial 6-month contract based in Melbourne , working on internal platforms that power a large-scale engineering org. If you care about good infrastructure, real-time insights, rock-solid reliability, and empowering fellow engineers with meaningful telemetry — this role is for you. What You’ll Be Doing Designing and building observability tools used by engineers across a modern platform ecosystem. Owning infrastructure as code using Terraform — from dashboards to alerting to access controls. Working hands-on with Datadog , AWS , CI/CD , and modern scripting languages . Writing well-tested, maintainable code that’s meant to scale and last. Helping the team migrate and automate monitoring configurations across environments. Collaborating with experienced engineers, product leads, and platform specialists. Championing a DevOps mindset and building with empathy for internal developer experience. Your Toolbox Should Include Solid Terraform expertise — modules, backends, automation, and CI/CD integration. Deep understanding of Datadog (Monitors, Dashboards, SLOs, APIs, multi-org setups). Comfortable writing in TypeScript , Python , Bash , or similar. Intermediate knowledge of Splunk , PagerDuty , and AWS-based infrastructure. Experience building reliable cloud-native applications and tools. Confidence with secure coding practices and managing access control (IAM, API keys). What Makes This Role Different You’re building tools for other engineers — your users understand what you do. You’ll work in a team that values autonomy, engineering excellence , and long-term thinking . You’ll see the direct impact of your work on platform health, developer experience, and release velocity. It’s a tight, collaborative environment that supports mentorship and growth , not just delivery.
