Lead SOE Engineer — Bateman, Melville Area

Job Description THE COMPANY: A dynamic and forward-thinking institution in Western Australia, operating within the Higher Education Industry. THE ROLE: The Lead Standard Operating Environment (SOE) Engineer holds a key position within the IT Operations team, reporting to the Campus Technology Manager. This role's central function is to oversee the lifecycle of application packaging and deployment services for the organisation's end-user computing environment. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for planning and coordinating the team's workload and providing direction and mentorship to fellow SOE Engineers. SKILLS: Essential: Possess a relevant degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or have equivalent practical experience and/or formal training. Demonstrated track record in SOE application packaging, providing support, maintaining systems, and implementing solutions for Windows 10, macOS, and Office 365 environments. In-depth operational understanding of Microsoft Windows end-user operating systems and their associated applications. Significant experience in managing Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise-level deployment and management tools such as SCCM, Intune, and JAMF. Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and their application to Incident, Problem, Change, and Configuration Management. Proficient in creating high-quality documentation for both technical audiences and end-users. Hands-on experience with various application packaging and deployment techniques, including Microsoft AppV, MSI, and Windows Installer. Proven ability to utilize scripting tools, with a preference for Powershell and VBScript. Highly skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex software, hardware, and environmental issues. A clear dedication to providing excellent customer service and professional technical guidance. Well-developed interpersonal skills enabling effective communication and positive working relationships with various stakeholders. Capacity to manage tasks and priorities both autonomously and as part of a team. Experience actively contributing to and effectively using a shared knowledge repository for support and self-service purposes. Desirable: Foundation level certificate in ITIL Change and Release Management or related industry qualification. Seven or more years of experience in a similar role. Responsibilities: Oversee and direct the tasks of SOE Engineers and Desktop Support Analysts, offering guidance and assistance in their daily work. Strategize and manage the upkeep, support, and overall lifecycle of the organisation's end-user computing devices and associated management systems. Address and resolve a range of user queries, from standard requests to complex issues, while following established procedures. Take a leading role in guiding SOE Engineers and Desktop Support Analysts through incident resolution, problem analysis, identifying root causes, and implementing change management protocols. Develop, update, and contribute to the organisation's knowledge base by creating and maintaining process documentation, policy documents, and helpful articles. Contribute to a positive end-user experience that aligns with the organisation's goals and objectives. Encourage and uphold adherence to relevant laws and internal regulations.
