Two exciting opportunities exist for talented and highly motivated individuals to join the Office of the General Counsel as Senior Legal Advisers in the Public Law Team at the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC). We have one ongoing role, and one fixed-term role until 11 March 2026. As part of the Public Law Team and reporting to its Co-Managers, you will be part of DPC's high-performing Office of the General Counsel. The Office of the General Counsel provides strategic legal and policy advice to the Premier, DPC Ministers and other areas of the Department. As a Senior Legal Adviser, you will deliver strategic, risk-based legal advice on a diverse and wide range of administrative law, constitutional and public policy issues such as: constitutional and parliamentary processes; electoral law and processes; powers of the Premier and Governor, as well as government litigation, inquires and royal commissions; freedom of information; data, privacy authorisations and delegations; equal opportunity and human rights; subordinate legislation; Aboriginal cultural heritage; and government project matters such as the planning, approval and delivery of State infrastructure and services. You may also have the opportunity provide support to the other legal teams in the Office of the General Counsel, which are the Corporate Law Team and the Legislation and Policy Team. We are seeking hard-working lawyers with strong technical, conceptual and communication skills, to join the dedicated, collegiate and high-performing Public Law Team. You must be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer and eligible to hold a Victorian practising certificate. About you As our ideal candidate you will have: Significant experience in public law or litigation, providing technically excellent and strategically focused legal advice, at a senior level, on public law issues. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Highly developed stakeholder management and negotiation skills. Proven ability to independently and effectively manage competing priorities and deliver results based on incomplete or ambiguous information, under pressure.
