Principal Percussion Teacher — Lota, Brisbane

The Moreton Bay Colleges' Music Program is seeking a Principal Percussion Teacher to cover a period of leave (June 2025 to July 2026) THE POSITION The Principal Percussion Teacher is an integral part of the Colleges’ music program, assisting to develop their area within the Department as a specialist teacher. We are seeking a full-time Principal Percussion Teacher to cover a period of leave (June 2025 to July 2026). This role may be split into a shared roll to match the availability of suitably experienced candidates. The Percussion Teacher’s primary responsibility is to deliver high quality percussion lessons, either individually or in small groups. Other duties include delivery of immersion programmes at both campuses, directing co-curricular ensembles as negotiated and according to the skills and abilities of the successful applicant. The role includes supporting co-curricular music programs and performances. The Principal Percussion Teacher is responsible to the Director of Music – The Moreton Bay Colleges and ultimately the Principals (MBC and MBBC). All staff are employed by the CEO and Executive Principal of MBC and MBBC. All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of these Uniting Church Day schools for girls and boys from P-12. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Principal Percussion Teacher is required to: delivery high quality instrumental lessons model best practice as a performing musician to MBC students develop individualized programs of instruction for private students that are informed by best practice and contemporary developments in pedagogy set clear goals and work towards achieving those cater for individual interests and learning styles establish solid technical foundations for development foster in students the desire to be the best that they can be cultivate outstanding young musicians direct ensembles if required arrange sectional rehearsals if required comply with College reporting requirements attend and assist with performances and other College events as required, including the annual music camp attend and actively contribute to weekly performance staff meetings provide articles for College publications such as the newsletter and Moretonian if required assist with auditions for ensembles if required attend at annual camp undertake all administration pertaining to personal teaching and performances maintain accurate rolls for students and ensembles actively contribute to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE The Principal Percussion Teacher must: Hold tertiary qualifications in Music Experience in tutoring Demonstrate considerable experience as a percussion educator in a range of educational contexts CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers would be an advantage. WORK ENVIRONMENT The Principal Percussion Teacher is accommodated in a well-resourced studio at Moreton Bay Boys’ College, and at Moreton Bay College as required. SELECTION CRITERIA SC1 Tertiary qualifications appropriate to teaching within a high performing music department. SC2 Proven record of achievement as an outstanding instrumental teacher. SC3 Demonstrated ability as a performing musician (instrumentalist, vocalist or conductor). Candidates may be asked to audition. SC4 Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues and parents. SC5 Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a high performing team. CONDITIONS AND SALARY Salary and conditions are in keeping with the current Moreton Bay College Enterprise Agreement. Sick Leave entitlement pro rata of 10 days annually. Long Service Leave entitlement pro rata of 1.3 weeks for each year of service, which can be taken after 7 years. The College contributes superannuation on behalf of the employee as per the current Moreton Bay Enterprise Agreement.
