Job Description Seeking a Junior Systems Administrator with e xperience managing and optimising Windows Desktop environments. Job details We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient Junior Systems Administrator to provide support in managing and maintaining critical IT systems. this contractor role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in systems administration, supporting both on-premises and Cloud-based infrastructure in a government environment. The successful candidate will work closely with senior administrators and IT teams to ensure the effective operation of systems and services. Desirable skills: Experience managing and optimising Windows Desktop environments. Exposure to Cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure) An understanding of automation tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, or scripting in other languages. Familiarity with ITIL practices and processes. Experience working in government or highly regulated environments is a plus. Key duties and responsibilities Systems Administration Support: Assist in the configuration, management and maintenance of server environments, including both physical and virtual systems, ensuring they operate efficiently and reliably. Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor system performance and identify potential issues. Assist in troubleshooting hardware, software and network-related problems, escalating more complex issues as needed. Security and Patch Management: Assist in implementing basic security measures, applying security patches, and managing user access permissions in line with government security protocols. backup and Recovery: Support the backup and disaster recovery processes, ensuring data is backed up regularly and that recovery procedures are followed in the event of a system failure. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation, including configuration settings, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures. Ensure all changes are property recorded. Automation and Scripting: Assist in the development of scripts or automation tasks to streamline routine system management functions and improve efficiency ( e.g PowerShell, Bash) Collaboration: work alongside senior systems administrators and other IT teams to ensure the smooth integration and operation of systems, applications, and services across the organisation. Teamwork: Work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment and manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. Technical skills Demonstrated experience commensurate with the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) 4 or above.
