LET’S EXPLORE THE ROLE To ensure that BAI’s interests in its relationships with customers, suppliers and business partners are protected; to provide effective and commercial legal support to enable the BAI business to meet its goals and objectives; and to act as an effective member of the BAI Legal Team, providing assistance to the General Counsel and Company Secretary and Senior Corporate Counsel as required, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the team’s performance. Key Responsibilities: To negotiate, review and draft customer contracts, supplier contracts and property contracts with enterprises, broadcasters, telecommunications providers, government customers, energy suppliers, IT/software/Saas suppliers, construction and equipment suppliers and landlords (with oversight from General Counsel and Senior Corporate Counsel as appropriate). To provide legal advice on a wide range of matters affecting the operations of BAI, including in relation to broadcasting, telecommunications law, procurement, IT, property, employment, IP, litigation, privacy, Security of Critical Infrastructure, environment, WHS and other general corporate and commercial matters. To assist the General Counsel and Senior Corporate Counsel to advise on employment matters including policies, agreements and disputes. To advise on protecting and enhancing the value of the BAI Group’s intellectual property assets including the application and registration of BAI Australia trademarks and other IP. To assist the General Counsel with their role as Company Secretary, including advising on company law and ASIC matters. To brief external counsel on specialist matters as required, and to manage external advice ensuring it meets quality and cost expectations. To advise on consumer protection, privacy and competition matters, and take a lead on privacy matters with direction from the General Counsel. To carry out legal research as required by the General Counsel and Senior Corporate Counsel. To provide training to staff on relevant law and changes to law, in conjunction with the General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel. To develop and update precedents and processes to streamline business/legal review practices. To undertake varying levels of tasks when required (from the mundane through to the challenging) as part of delivering required results to clients and as a BAI Legal team member. LET’S HEAR ABOUT YOU Proven exposure to property, commercial and/or corporate work in private practice or in-house. Prior experience in either Privacy & Data, Property, Security of Infrastructure Law or Telco preferred. Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation. Proven ability to interpret and apply legal requirements to business operations. Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Law. Holder of a current practicing certificate or eligible to obtain one. 2-5 years post qualification experience as a solicitor in NSW or a comparable jurisdiction.
