The Electromagnetic Warfare and Intelligence Systems, Joint and Air Systems Program Office (EWIS J&A SPO) is part of the Joint Systems Division and is seeking applications from talented and experienced Engineer Professionals - Communication to work in the Intelligence, Air and Classified Programs. The duties of an APS 6 Engineer in Communications occupation in Defence include the following: Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of Communication Systems engineering under broad direction. Accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations. Apply engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making and priority setting. Demonstrate systems engineering knowledge and provide advice and recommendations on the development of advancements to established engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations. Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in team work and motivate and mentor developing engineers. Tailor communication style and language to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions. Evaluate that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions. Monitor and ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into systems engineering activities. Manage workflows, resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team The EWIS J&A SPO undertakes the acquisition and through-life-support of assigned Joint and Air Electronic Warfare Capabilities used by the Australian Defence Force. It delivers countermeasures development and validation services and supports capability delivery on behalf of the Intelligence and Security Group and the Australian Defence Force. The EWIS J&A SPO are comprised of members of diverse skills and disciplines who work together to provide a wide variety of activities undertaken by EWIS. It has a high performing culture and the successful candidates can expect to be challenged in this role and supported by an inclusive and considerate team and leadership group. You will be part of the Sustainment Management Unit team and your Engineering skills will support technical and sustainment activities to ensure quality and compliance with appropriate technical delegations commensurate with relevant legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks. You will engage with stakeholders, investigate, report, develop, evaluate, advise and implement policies, processes, procedures, practice and manage resources specific to assurance and data specifications to support Defence capability. Our Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Engage with stakeholders, investigate systems engineering concepts, deliver and manage systems engineering specifications and resources in support of the Defence materiel capability lifecycle. Investigate, analyse and report on the systems engineering defects and requirements, develop and implement recommendations and advice to address issues. Accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex systems engineering work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to ensure they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements. Work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. They will provide detailed systems engineering technical and professional advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development. Accountable to set work priorities and manage workflows. They are expected to be capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes. Will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex or difficult issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders' needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
