An exceptional opportunity has just landed for an experienced Associate Designer to join this high-profile design and project management studio based in the heart of Melbourne’s city centre. Reporting to the Global Design Director, this is a key appointment for the workplace design team, as they need a dynamic and diligent professional who can lead, coordinate and deliver projects to the highest possible standard. With some very large jobs coming up, you will need to be competent across all project phases from new business development, client brief, concept design to details, technical, services and coordination onsite. Being confident in front of clients is essential, as you’ll be attending initial client appointments with the sales team to provide support and develop rapport with new leads/relationships. Your ability to make a positive first impression, to think on your feet and to energise a room will be crucial Key Skills & Requirements 11 years of interior design experience in workplace design Capable of working on multiple, large-scale projects concurrently Proven ability establishing strong client, colleague, stakeholder and business relationships Able to work autonomously and collaboratively within a diverse, globally based design team Planning and leadership experience managing other designers and specialist design support Acute attention to detail when reviewing and checking your own work and that of others Prior involvement working across all design stages of projects from feasibility through to construction, including space planning, conceptual, design development, technical documentation and collaboration with consultants Proficient use of SketchUp, AutoCAD and Adobe Suite Balanced approach to quality, timing, and budget considerations Strong organisational and problem-solving skills Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills In terms of your responsibilities, the primary areas that you’ll be needing to achieve and excel at include: Coordinating with the Client Services team and consulting with clients to understand their design, construction needs and buying values to support the development of new business opportunities Consulting with clients to establish design brief and understand functionality of space, budget considerations and aesthetic preferences Coordinating with Cost Estimating and Project Management teams Driving design timelines that work within the overall project master programme Generating presentations for marketing or pitch purposes using a variety of graphic techniques, including space planning, 3D visuals, layouts, diagrams and data Presenting design concepts to team members for design review and cost analysis Preparing technical documentation, written specifications, tender and construction documents Sourcing materials and FF&E specifications to meet the design, programme and budget parameters Attending project meetings and coordinate with consultants throughout design and delivery Attending site meetings and review design issues throughout construction Working with project leaders to problem solve design and buildability issues whilst maintaining the original design intent Understanding international standards, codes, materials and manufacturing techniques in overseas markets Understanding new and emerging global workplace strategy and design trends With more than 30 years of experience advising clients and managing projects around the world, this studio prides itself on delivering a personalised end-to-end experience, forging strong relationships and exceeding expectations. Whilst the team in Melbourne is boutique, you’ll be joining a team of interstate and international designers while working on projects based in Melbourne and Sydney in addition to Singapore, Hong Kong, New York, London and Paris.
