More About the Role at Westpac An exciting opportunity is available for a Service Engineer – Cloud Networks to join the Secure Network Services team in Group Technology. The Cloud Networks team is responsible for designing, building, managing, optimizing, and supporting high-performance cloud network services and infrastructure for the Westpac Group. As a Service Engineer, you’ll partner with customers and the broader network and infrastructure teams to focus on engineering cloud networks and edge connectivity solutions, as well as being accountable for their delivery. A standard day for you might involve: consulting with technology & infrastructure customers on their use cases and requirements, architecting designs & presenting them to wider stakeholders, working with peers and engineers in the Cloud Networks team to ensure a new pattern is developed, deployed and tested to the requirements, triaging the troubleshooting of complex, multi-domain networking issues, or even getting your hands dirty writing some Infra-as-Code and driving automation initiatives alongside our Cloud Network Engineers. This role will have the ability to add significant value to the Cloud Networks service and the broader Networks organisation. Strong communication skills are essential for this role, in particular the ability to present to, and influence, both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Your key responsibilities include: - Design & Architecture: Lead the design and architecture of public cloud network and security infrastructure patterns, including edge connectivity, as well as ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and efficient. - Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business and infrastructure stakeholders to develop new cloud network solutions and ensure alignment with evolving requirements and architectural strategies. - Project & Initiative Delivery: Conduct detailed analysis of new initiative requirements, including cost estimation and resource planning, followed by the cross-functional coordination and execution of these initiatives. - Troubleshooting & Support: Provide leadership in troubleshooting and resolving complex, multi-domain networking issues. - Service Improvement: Drive service improvement initiatives, enhancing the operational support and performance of cloud network services. - Capacity Planning & Monitoring: Contribute to infrastructure planning, capacity assessments, and performance monitoring, as well as collaborating with third-party vendors to maintain stability and scalability. - Governance & Strategy: Support the development of technology strategies, standards, and governance to ensure alignment with organizational goals. To succeed in this Service Engineer – Cloud Networks role, you should have: - Experience: Significant IT industry experience, with at least five years in a technical role within a complex IT infrastructure environment. - Public Cloud Expertise: Knowledge of public cloud infrastructure and understanding of networking components like virtual networks, subnets, IP addressing, routing, security groups, load balancers, and firewalls. - Multi-Cloud & Migration: Experience managing and integrating networks across multiple cloud providers (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), as well as migrating on-premises networks to cloud environments or between different cloud providers. - Security Best Practices: Strong understanding of security best practices in cloud environments, including network segmentation, encryption, and access control. - Automation & Provisioning: High level experience with provisioning automation using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Git, Python, and Ansible. - Certifications: Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate, and Cisco certifications like CCNA or CCNP. - Networking Skills: Proficiency in TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalling, micro-segmentation technologies, and network monitoring tools. Experience with software-defined networking overlays (SDN) such as VXLAN EVPN or VMware NSX is a plus. - Problem-Solving: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, including experience with diagnosing and resolving complex network issues. - Industry Experience: Experience in a complex, enterprise financial services environment is desirable. - Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Service Management: Understanding of the ITIL framework, including incident, change, and problem management. - Project Management & DevOps Tools: Familiarity with project management and DevOps tools such as Jira.
