Job Title: Senior Mining Engineer Location: Hillside (Site-based, with relocation provided – Must reside within 35km of Hillside) About the Opportunity REX Minerals is seeking an experienced senior mining engineer to play a key role in the planning, development, and execution of open-pit mining operations at the Hillside Project. This role requires expertise across all phases of the mine life cycle, from pre-production planning through to full-scale operations. You will be responsible for mine design, scheduling, resource optimisation, and operational oversight, working closely with contractors, geologists, and technical teams to ensure safe, cost-effective, and high-performance mining operations. As a key leader in the mining team, you will ensure that production targets, cost controls, and safety standards are met while driving operational improvements and sustainable mining practices. Key Responsibilities • Actively apply and promote MACH Metals policies and ensure that workers observe these principles within the workplace • Actively participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Integrated Management System • Lead the development and execution of the open-pit mine plan, including pit design, scheduling, and resource optimisation • Oversee the creation of detailed mine designs, including drilling and blasting plans, haulage, and waste management strategies • Ensure that the mine planning processes align with the overall project development timeline and cost expectations • Provide technical support for geotechnical, environmental, and infrastructure teams in the development stage • Work closely with the geological team to ensure accurate resource modelling and reserve estimation • Conduct mine optimisation studies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure safe and sustainable operations • Oversee contractor mining operations to ensure adherence to safety standards, operational procedures, and production targets • Provide leadership in developing and maintaining effective operational controls, such as production schedules, cost management, and equipment utilisation • Assist in managing day-to-day activities of the open-pit operations, including drill and blast, load and haul, and waste disposal • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and ensure that mining operations are on track to meet production goals • Coordinate with the contractor’s operations team to ensure optimal resource allocation and address any challenges promptly • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and promote a strong safety culture across the operation • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations • Ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into mine planning and operational activities, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and regulations • Oversee the implementation of effective mine rehabilitation and closure planning • Prepare and manage budgets for open-pit development and operations, ensuring costs are controlled and within project estimates • Develop forecasts for capital and operational expenditures and manage financial resources effectively • Monitor contractor performance against budget and schedule, resolving any discrepancies • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on mine development progress, operational performance, and any issues or risks • Communicate effectively with other departments (e.g., geology, processing, environmental, health and safety) to ensure seamless integration of mining activities with overall site operations • Support external reporting requirements, including those related to stakeholders and regulators • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff • Collaborate with the contractor’s project management team to ensure the workforce is trained and competent in executing mining activities efficiently and safely • Foster a positive team culture, promoting open communication, continuous learning, and high performance About You You are a highly skilled mining professional with a strong background in open-pit operations, possessing the technical expertise and leadership capabilities required to drive efficiency, safety, and productivity. Key Skills & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, or a related field • Australian driver’s licence • White Card (mandatory) • Master’s degree desirable • 10 years of experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior engineering role, preferably in open-pit mining • Experience with the development and operation of a mine, ideally in a contractor-operated mining environment • Strong experience in mine design, scheduling, cost estimation, and production optimisation • Strong understanding of geotechnical, environmental, and safety considerations in mining operations • Previous experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing external contractors • Technical proficiency in mining software for mine planning and design • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills • Solid understanding of mining regulations, environmental standards, safety management systems, and compliance requirements • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and proactive problem-solving Why Join REX Minerals?
