Work Health and Safety (WHS) Senior Advisor Construction — Parkes, South Canberra

We are seeking applications from highly motivated candidates to provide support for Work Health & Safety (WHS) practices in construction related activity to ensure the Gallery is compliant with legislative requirements. The position sits in the Human Resources team who are responsible for implementation and management of the WHS Management Systems. You will work closely with the Capital Works, Facilities Management, Exhibitions team and other departments across the Gallery. This role will provide support to the Capital Works team which includes delivery of over $100 million in capital asset upgrade projects while also assisting the Facilities Management team to build strong WHS practices across the Gallery. The key duties of the position include In line with NGA 6 work level standards your key responsibilities will include: Promoting and supporting a strong health and safety culture by engaging with head contractors, Gallery employees, and trade contractors. You will focus on raising awareness and encouraging engagement with workplace wellbeing and safety through proactive education and mentoring staff to improve safety practices. Overseeing contractor compliance for safety obligations when working at Gallery facilities. This will include overseeing all aspects of the contractor engagement cycle from induction through Donesafe. Maintaining and implementing the WHS operational framework for construction-related activities, ensuring appropriate controls, risk minimisation strategies, and monitoring processes are in place. Researching, interpreting, and applying technical knowledge to manage WHS in construction activities and provide strategic advice to meet obligations under the WHS Act. This includes contractor and staff WHS inductions, completing risk assessments, reviewing WHS documentation, including SWMS, auditing contractors, conducting site inspections and audits, and monitoring staff during construction activities. Leading safety audits and investigations to prevent recurrence and reduce risk for construction related activity. Writing and reviewing internal and external documentation related to WHS and Quality processes, policies, guidance materials, and Safety Data Sheets.
