The Role In this dynamic role, you will be tasked with planning and executing system safety activities for our hypersonic vehicle development programs. You will lead the engineering team through all essential system safety activities throughout the product lifecycle, and manage system safety interactions with external customers, partners and suppliers. Additionally, you will maintain and update existing system safety management plans as needed, ensure engineering tools and processes meet relevant safety requirements, and oversee the delivery and operation of safe products. Responsibilities include: Update existing system safety management plans (SMPs) to comply with relevant standards and regulations. Develop existing tools and processes for system safety activities to implement best practice and continuous improvement. Coordinate with project management to ensure system safety is incorporated into project planning. Guide the engineering team through system safety activities. Produce overarching safety artefacts for vehicle development programs. Ensure products and operations are appropriately safe in accordance with SFAIRP principles. Achieve safety approval from relevant authorities for ground and flight operations of hypersonic vehicles. Implement a system safety training program for the Hypersonix engineering team. To be successful in this role you will need: Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (Mechanical / Electrical / Aerospace) Experience working in system/product safety, covering the key responsibilities of this position (5 years). Less experience in system safety will be considered if coupled with experience in adjacent areas such as systems engineering. Demonstrated experience working in a safety regulated industry (such as aerospace, defence, rail, medical) operating under a defined system safety regime such as MIL-STD-882 or similar. Experience with Identifying hazards, assessing and controlling risks, and reviewing control measures (HIRA and HAZOP ) Experience building and delivery training programs and safety workshops. Knowledge of industry standards and regulations. Proficient ensuring compliance by appropriately adapting standards. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Work, Excel, Outlook. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving skills. Able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. Able to work in a flexible, fast-moving and dynamic environment. Self-motivated, adaptable and results driven. Experience with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), desirable. Experience in FMECA and reliability analysis, desirable. Aerospace industry experience highly regarded, desirable. Supplementary requirements Driver's License, preferred. Background checks, including Australian National Police clearance check.
