The Public Speaking Teacher and Career & University Advisor plays a dual role in guiding students to develop both their communication and career-planning skills. This position is responsible for coaching students in public speaking and debating, preparing them for competitions, and fostering their confidence in communication. Simultaneously, the role involves advising students on subject selection, university applications, and career pathways, ensuring they make informed decisions for their future. The role requires close collaboration with parents, teachers, universities, and external stakeholders to provide students with a holistic educational experience. The teacher-advisor will develop workshops, competitions, and career-related programs while maintaining comprehensive student records and ensuring a strategic approach to student success.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Public Speaking & Debating • Develop and implement structured public speaking and debating programs for all skill levels. • Provide individual and group coaching on articulation, argument development, and persuasion. • Organize and oversee extracurricular activities such as Debating, Future Problem Solving (FPS), and Model United Nations (MUN). • Train students for local, national, and international speech and debate competitions. • Offer feedback on speech delivery, body language, and critical thinking. • Manage competition logistics, including registration, scheduling, and communication. • Integrate public speaking techniques into classroom learning in collaboration with faculty. • Accompany students to competitions, offering support and post-event debriefing. • Foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages intellectual discourse. Career & University Advising • Guide students in subject selection, career pathways, and university options based on their strengths. • Organize Year 10 work experience programs, liaising with employers and managing documentation. • Conduct individual and group meetings with students and parents for personalized career advice. • Facilitate career exploration using tools like Allwell testing to align studies with aspirations. • Support Year 11 students in subject changes, career planning, and post-secondary options. • Maintain parent communication on career events, university deadlines, and work experience. • Assist the Year 12 Careers Adviser with university applications, scholarships, and guest speakers. • Contribute weekly career-related content to the High School Newsletter. • Organize university fairs, career workshops, and industry speaker events. • Manage Unifrog or similar career guidance platforms to provide university and career planning resources.THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:Experience & Skills • Extensive background in public speaking, debate coaching, and education. • Strong knowledge of debate formats, public speaking techniques, and competitions. • Expertise in career counseling, student advising, and academic planning. • Familiarity with university applications (Australia, US, UK), including entrance requirements and scholarships. • Ability to design and deliver engaging workshops in communication and career planning. • Exceptional organizational skills for managing programs, events, and deadlines. • Experience with online career planning tools (e.g., Unifrog) is advantageous. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to inspire student confidence. • Strong initiative, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills. Qualifications: • Preferred: Degree in education, communication, career counseling, or related field. • Relevant certifications in speech and debate coaching. • Teaching or coaching experience in a school setting. Additional Requirements: • Valid Working with Children Check. • Commitment to professional development and NESA accreditation. • Willingness to participate in school events beyond regular hours.
