As a Senior Weapons Engineer - Energetics Specialist, you are responsible for providing consultancy advice and technical solutions to clients, generally in a project setting - helping them solve the problems that really matter. As our client's needs are ever evolving, you can expect variety and diversity in the support you provide. Providing GWEO systems with subject matter expertise in the area of pyrotechnics, propellants and high explosives. A strong scientific or manufacturing background is highly beneficial in understanding some of the potential failures or risks associated to specific weapon systems. In addition, the engineer is expected to develop process change and training to new engineers in the field. Key responsibilities Collaborate between a range of stakeholders from DOS, DST and GWEO manufacturing. Develop a sound understanding of the organisational structure in defence and engage the right stakeholders in order to meet special program office requirements. Where relevant, support or generate opportunities for the department to collaborate with different stakeholders through workshops or similar within Australia. Review and develop engineering documentation Provide training in the form of short engineering presentations based on a particular subject area of value. Answer direct technical questions from engineers across the department regarding any energetic materials, all up systems, common failure modes, and potential de-risking activities or testing options. Diffuse technical material from DOS, DST and journal publications to the engineers within GWEO systems. Provide direct mentoring to and task planning for junior and or graduate engineers. Provide material to a broad audience through conference papers or equivalent publications. What we would like from you: An Engineering degree in a suitable field and at least 2 years relevant experience, or a technical/trade background with 8 years of demonstrable relevant Defence experience. A demonstrably elevated level of professional knowledge on guided weapon systems and or Explosive Ordnance. Relevant experience in engineering artefact development and review activities. A demonstrably high level of professional knowledge on applicable weapon systems, equipment, or technology. Experience using ASDEFCON principles. Desirable Skills: Experience working to support defence acquisition or sustainment projects.
