A well-established property development firm with a strong pipeline of large-scale projects is seeking a Senior Design Manager to join a flagship $2 billion, 1,200-apartment development in Sydney. Role Overview The Senior Design Manager will oversee the design and delivery of two major residential buildings within the development team, working closely with internal teams and external consultants. This role requires extensive experience in Class 2 residential development design experience, a strong leadership presence, and the ability to navigate complex project pathways. Key Responsibilities Lead the design process for major residential buildings, ensuring compliance with project goals, approvals, and construction feasibility. Mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and fostering a high-performance culture. Liaise with stakeholders, including internal teams (development, construction, engineering) and external consultants (architects, planners, regulatory bodies). Manage project complexities, including design iterations, DA approvals, and compliance with the Design & Building Practitioners Act. Ensure regulatory and compliance alignment, working with local councils and planning authorities. Support project delivery, transitioning from development to execution while maintaining design integrity and efficiency. Key Requirements Extensive experience in Class 2 residential projects, ideally within high-rise, mixed-use, or BTR developments. Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and managing design teams. Proven ability to navigate complex approval processes and changing project directions. Experience working in developer-builder environments, balancing internal and external collaboration. Ability to adapt to long-term project timelines and evolving strategic priorities.
