Your opportunity: Our Digital & Information Group is growing, and we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Network Engineer to join our newly established Infrastructure Network and Things team. Digital & Information is responsible for digitally enabling Urban Utilities today while transforming our future capabilities to enhance digital services for our customers, community, and people. We drive Urban Utilities’ digital & data strategy, oversee the digital portfolio, and manage IT, OT, data, IoT, security, infrastructure, system administration, network operations, and support services. Reporting to the Lead, the Principal Network Engineer is accountable for leading and overseeing the design, development, implementation and support of our variety of network technologies and solutions. Urban Utilities relies upon a sophisticated network environment leveraging traditional IP network connectivity, IoT technologies, control system solutions and long distance, RF based network infrastructure to manage and connect all of Urban Utilities Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) devices and service its depots and resource recovery centres. The Principal Network Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the on-going operational performance of the network, monitoring the effectiveness of operational processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organisational policies. As Urban Utilities recognised Technical Expert, the Principal Network Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance and coaching to the other members of the Network and Things team, ensuring adherence to stringent standards and regulations, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and identifying and mitigating significant risks to ensure successful outcomes. About you: Bachelor's or Masters’ degree in relevant subject area (Engineering, Computer Science or related field). Advanced certifications in networking and/or RF technologies (eg Cisco/Aruba/Juniper Expert level certifications etc). Significant experience in leading design and development of complex solutions, leading major development projects with significant business impact and coaching and driving innovation and continuous improvement Technical expertise in defining principles and frameworks for development teams, mentoring developers and guiding team practices and applying security, scalability and maintainability principles in software design. Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and support IT operations. Customer-focused with a strategic and curious mindset. Demonstrates integrity, authenticity, and values diverse perspectives. Agile and adaptable, embracing change and new challenges. Strong planning and decision-making skills to drive safe and effective outcomes. Security clearance/SOCI requirements may apply. Performance of ‘on call’ duties are an inherent requirement of this role. This requires that the employee must be available to be on-call and to attend to work matters, both in person and remotely, outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, as reasonably required to fulfill the requirements of the position. The days, times, duration and frequency of on call arrangements may be subject to change, including at short notice, as required by Urban Utilities’ operational needs as applying from time to time. At all times whilst on-call, you must be fit for duty, contactable, and able to respond, including the ability to physically attend if required, to the operational needs of the business within a reasonable timeframe and in a safe manner.
