The Director, Urban Design will commission, develop, and implement masterplans for the National Capital Authority (NCA). They will lead strategic planning objectives that support economic, social, and environmental development across the precinct. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping urban environments to realise sustainable local economic opportunities. They will employ a thorough understanding of land use and social planning principles at a strategic and technical level to achieve their outcomes. The key duties of the position include Duties may include, but are not limited to: Design principles for a large-scale, long-term view of the urban environment within NCA control. Work with Authority members, internal technical professionals, and external stakeholders to craft a fit-for-purpose future vision of the national capital. Negotiate development objectives and implementation plans consistent with guidance from the Authority. Provide input for community consultation forums and assist in the analysis of feedback from them. Create master plans that anticipate changes in growth and community expectations. Develop and implement agreed quality standards for master plan deliverables. Contribute to innovation in land use planning to increase infrastructure resilience. Analyse and interpret planning and environmental legislation, policy, and other issues and trends of significance to NCA master plans. Provide practical and expert urban planning advice to the Chief Planner and branch colleagues as requested. Participate as a constructive member of the NCA and provide reasonable support with other branch functions as required.
