What we do The Infrastructure and Operations division maintains national critical infrastructure for Services Australia and across government. We deliver a robust, secure, and resilient ICT environment so Australian citizens can access government services 24x7. The Core Infrastructure branch delivers network, telecommunications, gateway, data centre facilities, cloud connectivity and computing (mid-range and mainframe) and storage infrastructure. Our cutting-edge mainframe infrastructure is the largest in the country, supporting the Centrelink, Medicare, and Child Support programs. Our network covers more than 1,000 locations across Australia and supports secure network and gateway services for Services Australia and our Shared Services Partners. About the role Gateway Engineers work under the support and general direction of senior staff. They exercise a degree of independent judgement and make decisions within defined parameters that require some reliance on skills and knowledge. They plan their work in the context of competing priorities and contribute to changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies. You will be part of a team delivering Gateway services for Services Australia and eleven other Government agencies/departments. The successful candidates will contribute to the build and operational support of Gateway infrastructure capabilities in one or more of following technologies: routing and switching including ACI (Cisco), Firewall infrastructure and policies (Palo Alto), DDI (Infoblox), Proxy solutions (Blue Coat and F5) and Email Security solutions. Our ideal candidate should be a highly motivated, skilled engineer who works closely with other technical staff within the branch and division to develop solutions, deliver projects, resolve incidents and problems impacting system availability or performance. They will assist with recommendations, evaluations and deployment of Gateway hardware and related software. They will also implement and manage cyber controls to ensure compliance with security policy and best practice. The key duties of the position include Assisting/leading Services Australia Gateway systems administration on a range of security devices including network switching and routing, firewall, DNS, Email, Internet Proxy and Virtual Private Network (VPN). Following procedures for prioritisation, resolution and/or escalation of issues to ensure timely resolution. Developing/maintaining technical documentation including standard operating procedures, network diagrams and device inventory. Preparing, testing and implementing change deployments. Representing the team in change management, incident management and stakeholder meetings. Working collaboratively and respectfully with staff, customers, vendors and stakeholders.
